Cycling from New York to Montreal?

Hello, Your help would be greatly appreciated in this field. I am a 21 year old female with intent to bike in New York Montreal on this bike (http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebikes/street/citizen/09_citizen1.html). I am willing to basics (first aid, spare tire / Repair kit, food, water, lights, helmet, gloves, leggings, bike). It is a journey of 300 miles I have the intention to cover 4 to 5 days and I would back to New York by train. My question is: 1. The bike can to handle this? 2. Farmington Canal is a safe route to take? 3. Do you have recommendations what to do / how to prepare? 4. Is this possible and not a suicide trip?

300 miles in 4 to 5 days is not bad (especially 21). At 22 who traveled from Jacksonville, Florida, Fort Lauderdale in 5 days (we stayed 2 days in Orlando) was a day of torrential rain, and even had an accident the road. All this with an old bicycle speed of 10 loaded with some 80 kilos of equipment (sleeping bag and tent included). I logged 1,000 miles of that trip, but also made 8 to 10 hours of cycling a day. I did the city of Quebec in Montreal (150 miles) in two days of cold rain to stay in shelters. I'm not familiar Farmington Canal with, but if I were to give any advice would be to plan your days in advance. Give yourself a reasonable goal every day with the option falling short (if necessary) or go beyond (the time and energy permitting). If possible, do not travel alone, can be long and boring traveling alone. Be flexible, anything can happen, rain, flat tires, etc. .. and could slow down. Finally, avoid long stretches uphill.
